Our parish, now over 2,000 households, was founded in 1989 and constructed its first church in 1995. The parish school followed in 2002, and the rapid growth of this area of Virginia Beach necessitated an addition of two new wings on the parish church in 2004/5. From a small and committed core group of founders, the parish has grown to include people from all over the nation and world. We number some 2,000 young people between the ages of 0 and 18, and we are also home to a substantial and growing retirement community, with everything in between. We seek to provide a spiritual home for a congregation of great variety, and we depend on the involvement of many to bring the spirit of Christ to life in prayer, study, outreach and community life.

Saint John the Apostle Mission Statement:
"The people of St. John the Apostle Catholic Parish and School desire to grow in faith in union with Jesus Christ and one another. We strive to be a place where all are welcome, as we respond to the needs of our community and the world through Word, Worship, Stewardship and Service. We promote the Catholic formation of our youngest to our oldest members in order to create a strong moral foundation on which to base our lives. We provide an environment where all who come to our parish are inspired to share the talents God gave them and to grow strong in the family of Christ through love of Holy Scripture, deep respect for Sacred Tradition, living the faith and cheerfully doing good works."
